Orcutt Ranch – Chris & Carli – 19th March 2017
We had the utmost pleasure of photographing Christopher and Carli’s unbelievable wedding in the outskirts of Los Angeles, California. We’ve known Carli for many years after her brief stint living in the UK. When the opportunity to photograph her wedding came up, naturally we jumped all over it.
We made our plans, booked our tickets and starting planning our week in the Golden State (we weren’t JUST going to go to photograph the wedding now were we?) Deciding to spend a full week in LA, we touched down three days prior to the wedding and settled into our AirBnB for the week. We met up with Christopher and Carli on our first full day for a catch up and a chat about the day over incredible food and a couple of local beers.
We both immediately fell in love LA, particularly Venice Beach where we were staying. The whole city is just bathed in this stunning golden glow seemingly day round. We filled our week with a lot of beautiful memories but none can compare to the incredible day that we were privileged to attend and photograph.
We made our separate ways to the wedding in the morning; myself to check out the venue and scout out spots for photographs during the day and Georgie to capture all of the bridal preparations. The venue for the day was the spectacular Orcutt Ranch in West Hills (about half an hour north of Los Angeles). The main ranch building and ceremony area were enveloped in a gorgeous orange grove. Every turn was a photo opportunity. Around every corner there was another stunning vista.
Once the family and friends started arriving to set up the venue it became abundantly clear that the vibe of the day was all about the closeness that was shared between this group of people. Everybody was pitching in, setting up lights, dressing the tables and making sure every little detail was perfectly in place.
The ceremony was held outdoors in the late afternoon heat and glow of a March afternoon and was conducted by a family friend, further adding to the deeply personal ambiance of the day. After the ceremony we headed out among the orange trees for some group shouts and couples portraits
After some beautiful speeches and some dances that brought many folk (us included) to the point of tears, afternoon turned into evening the wedding turned from precious celebration to downright party time! Music and drink flowed, shapes were thrown and hilarity ensued. All in all a magical day in an equally magical setting.
